X Factor - An Inspiration

Writer: Sivaji VenkatSivaji Venkat

The launch of ‘83 movie rekindle thoughts of Indian pace bowlers journey. After Kapil Dev, there was vacuum in 80s and early 90s where batters were considered god to win test cricket. There were occasions Batters did grind all five days to make a statement sometimes selfishly. Many aspirational medium pace bowlers turned into spin bowlers to establish a career. From the team runs point of view 400 to 600 runs in a test match was normal those days.

Genuine fast bowlers started shaping up in 90s and in the millennium . As Indian fans, we were looking up at Srinath, Venkatesh Prasad, Ajit Agarkar and others to perform well in overseas and be the macho man of the game. We saw many disappointing end and overseas wins became a myth for Team India.

The Indian speedsters are scripting all overseas win today. Today, a team scoring 300 plus can win a test match as it has become more bowler influenced outcome.

The X Factor of Indian bowlers is defining a legacy of glory.

A glance from the First test vs South Africa:

Rahul

No. 1 Jersey, No. 1 position and No.1 batter. Second batter after Wasim Jaffer to score century in South Africa as an opening batter.

Mohammad Shami

Seven wickets. Go to bowler to take early wickets. After Sri Lanka, Shami has the best average in South Africa (21.58). More to come from him this series.

Jasprit Bumrah

Consistent performer. His average is excellent overseas when compared to India.

Mohammad Siraj

A breakthrough bowler.

Ashwin

South Africa didn’t use Maharaj in the second innings as it was not helping spin bowlers. Probably for the same reason Ashwin wasn’t used in the second innings. The legend did justice using the opportunity provided.

South Africa’s Bavuma’s Brilliance,Elgar’s extravaganza, terrific Lungi and Rabada made a big fighting spirit.

After Moeen Ali, Quinton decock’s test retirement is a shocking news.

Do you think white ball franchise tournament(money stability) is more attractive than test cricket pushing players for an early retirement?
