Virat Kohli's innings of 72 runs went unnoticed on the last day of the India vs England test at Chennai. It was over shadowed by huge margin loss since 1999. Fans are used to watching Virat scoring big all the time and a score of 72 is normally expected out of him. A world class batsman has shown his pedigree.
Virat's captaincy is under scrutiny among the fans. He doesn't need the luck factor to prove his batting as he puts in lot of hard work and have been consistent all the time. However being a captain in my opinion, he does not have the luck when he makes bold move be it a team selection, bowling changes etc. He repeatedly falls under the scanner for mishaps. Why?
In my opinion, he thinks a lot about the team, match etc and channelising lot of energy in the emotion of the game especially while fielding. Instead probably he can take a step back conserve energy and observe the game a bit more which may improve his decision making skill.
Does a talkative captain put across lot of messages to the team resulting in good or bad moves? In an irony of captaincy, India has done well under calm captains Dhoni and Rahane. This can't be true but when things go wrong, people do talk. We all know that no one would have energy like him to support his bowler and fielders by being vocal on the field. Sometimes I think if Virat was a pace bowler then for every aggressive appeal and animated look on his face it would bring shiver in umpires.
Virat probably needs to sit back, relax, delegate in his thought process which can help him to bring out his natural decision making which may practically go well with his team mates in execution. This is a humble thought of a fan without having knowledge on the events behind the scenes.
Now to 2021 India vs England home series. Here are some of Virat's stats and facts against England in the home series:
Batting Average - 66.14
Runs Scored - 926
Batting Average as captain - 92.25
Batting Average as non captain - 31.33
Highest score - 235 in 2016
Batting average - Won fielding first 84.71
Batting average - Won batting first 47.57
Batting average when toss won 47.57
Batting average when toss lost 84.71
Virat should go back to his original one down batting position which may get him back to his King Kohli position to steer the team with confidence right from early and to an extent of influencing some intimidation in the opponent's eyes.
King Kohli will come back with a Big Bang this series and put up a fight leading from the front.
I request all the fans to wish him good luck and have faith in his captaincy to come good.
Virat Kohli is a legend for all the fans of Cricket.
