T20WC - SF1 - Land and Expand

A personal note to start with. I have decided to stop blogging at the end of this World Cup. Thank you for your support throughout. This is the 1 of 3 of my remaining blogs.

Recently, I came across a post on social media on a story about a drink salesman. He had a price list stating “1 for £3” and “3 for £10”. A person bought three drinks on separate transactions for £9 and pointed out the flaw in the sales model to the salesman. The salesman said people come for one drink and end up drinking three drinks with a grin . Volume sales speaks for itself. This story coincides with a sales technique I came across recently called as “Land and Expand” (foot in the door). This means you don’t need to sell all products at once instead sell one product and expand further later.

Pakistan team had their foot in the door which was unlocked by Netherlands. As much as they absorb shock from infamous defeats they rise to the occasion taking motivation from the change in momentum. The change in momentum is not their own but the change in momentum of the tournament. SA sent home after being top of the table till last Sunday is a change in momentum that Pakistan capitalised it. Their body language finds new energy from the momentum change to apply the “Land and expand” strategy.

The run out of Conway from a direct hit was the momentum change the Pakistan capitalised to rejig the team body language. I am pretty sure the Cricket fraternity knew that when NZ scored 151, it will be a cake walk for Pakistan as they were in top control of mind and body at that point.

Pakistan is itching to rescript the history of 1992 World Cup. It can go two ways from here depending on the result from the other semi final, repeat of 1992 or 2007 finals.

A brilliant comeback by Pakistan. An ajar door is now wide open where Pakistan shake hands with Netherlands saying bye to each other moving to the Finals and the other one get a wildcard for 2024 World Cup.
