An introduction of a new player has a ceremony of handing in a cap. The cap is worn with pride and then he/she just focuses what they do everyday. The player then embarks on a journey to achieve several milestones and earn the experience over a period of time. The experience opens up an opportunity to take the leadership.
The leadership is no way a cap when worn can bring all the abilities. An excellent player may not be a good captain. A good captain can introspect, have an inbuilt drone to analyse the players, motivate the team, set a vision and walk the talk to inspire the team. Most importantly drive with their natural character only then they can sustain longer.
The only outspoken captain who walked the talk with a high success rate is Virat Kohli. The nature of aggressiveness was packed with clear vision of actions. Guts to state that he wants to win and not play for defeat or draw and then go on to lead the series in England 2-1 is an example of the “walk the talk” style of his captaincy. Leading the team with 40 wins out of 68 tests is an amazing feat.
Virat’s emotions in the field ignited the encouragement for the bowlers to go and do more. Inspiring with his fitness and fielding ability set the bar for the team to look up to. He was also a great audience of the game when he fields emoting every ball like one would watch the live feed on the television.
The story of overseas victories was well and truly scripted by Virat. The fans were dreaming to see India win overseas tour which was fulfilled by Virat not just once. The rate of audience watching test match has significantly grown as the intensity of the game grew in his leadership. People watch every ball of a test match unlike in the past which is mainly because of the best pace attack in the world that Team India posses. The pace attack grew in confidence during Virat’s tenure as a leader which was powered by his aggressive style of leadership.
It is sad to see the Lion is no more the leader of the jungle but a member of jungle. I am sure he will continue to roar with his bat.
Virat you made India proud and your unique leadership will be a legacy of Team India. A leaf from your captaincy with be in some
form or shape inspire future of Team India.
