The Ask: Reorg for Renaissance

Writer: Sivaji VenkatSivaji Venkat

A broken clock is handed to a clock smith. The clock-smith open to find several defective moving parts. The pendulum locked in one state doesn’t lead the way of clock work. The chime of success every hour is unheard and the clock look lost in time for itself and for the person looking at it.

The T20 Team India changes started just before the belated 2020 World Cup and heading to “too soon” 2022 World Cup. The time between the two World Cup make us feel that we are travelling in a time capsule to the future instantly badly influenced by the pandemic. The Team India have a mammoth challenge before them with a new coach and a captain.

The home series was a blessing in disguise to try youngsters at several positions both bowling and batting to understand the potential and at the same time build the bonding exercise. Dravid and Rohit Sharma have done an excellent work to seal series against West Indies and Sri Lanka. Rohit’s captaincy style has changed on the field as his communication is better, evident and reaping one unit performance. We all know the proof is in the pudding when they play in Overseas. However the nature of T20 is once the team consistently perform and bond then mostly it can withstand when played anywhere in the world (As Michael Vaughan say: In T20, “the batters hands go to the ball unlike test cricket” and similarly the bowlers have the trick up their sleeve which can work anywhere in the world)

The Coach the clock-smith, the Captain the pendulum and the entire gamut of “chop and change” of players the moving parts must bond together to Chime a T20 success. Once bonded, it works continuously for a long time like a clock. The Chime will then be heard by the fans sat before the clock and watch mesmerised by fascination of the fully working Clock.

The ask for the upcoming World Cup from the Team India is, please read the title once more. Thank you.
