Team India W - Redemption Time

Writer: Sivaji VenkatSivaji Venkat

The anti-climax syndrome hit hard for the women’s team with a marginal defeat in 2017 World Cup against England and 2022 Common Wealth games against Australia. The team required channelising the energy and pluck motivation out of thin air to cross over the line. New captain Kaur had a daunting task to break the shackles and demystify the pressure fog to script victories.

Women have more patience and girl power can do anything. The team slowly revived with some changes in the dressing room. The legend Jhulan was only the senior from the past playing the last series before she retires.

The one day series white wash against England 3-0 in England was a fitting redemption for the hard work and determination. Mandhana, Kaur and Renuka was consistent throughout to motivate the bandwagon and the rest was history.

I was watching the Lords ODI highlights and as the highlights was nearing the end. I was wondering there was no Drama this time at Lords. Lords is a drama theatre and Deepti’s legal Mankading was the climax to a great fairy tale ending.

The IPL 2023 start for women’s cricket will definitely bring out more talent. The Ashes five day test cricket has already pushed boundaries. Very soon the boundary line for both men and women cricket will be equal as Mandhana and Kaur are pushing it by giving catch practice to the spectators.

Fasten your seat belt, relax and enjoy the “take off” of Women’s cricket.
