The WTC quest for Team India is now reset. Against England in England is a tough start. If they crack it then they have some home games later to start accumulating points.
The skill, talent and bench strength is in abundance for Team India. Yet, they have English summer woes for a long time now.
Team India showcased their resilience against Aussies which is very fresh and motivating in their minds. Can they do it in England? So, how they may end the poor run in England? Here is my point of view as a big fan of cricket.
I think rotation of players can bring big yield for Team India. Test cricket requires careful attention to rotate players and not a easy task. Perhaps a simple rule should do:
Replace batter if they have two innings of bad run.
Replace bowler if the have four innings of bad run.
There are some positions where this rule can’t apply which is fair enough. This rule may increase the appetite among the less experienced to run the extra mile. Players who can be given a try are Gill, Mayank, Rahul, Vihari and Bharat.
To ease out pressure, Pujara is an option to open and Rohit Sharma can go two down. Kohli can take his original spot of one down. Pujara has the right temperament to play more balls with patience which is essential during the initial part of the innings especially during the first session of batting.
Hanuma Vihari will be a good add to the team in place of Jadeja. If they bring in Hanuma, it will be good to do in the first test which will be ideal without any pressure. I think Vihari needs more opportunities as he is focussed on red ball cricket career.
In essence, Team India should nail the team selection, be little adventurous and take opportunity to groom red ball players.
