IPL 2022 - Smoking Mirrors and The Top Gun

Writer: Sivaji VenkatSivaji Venkat

The comfort zone is where we all want to be as much as possible. Maintaining status quo wrapped by comfort zone does help to keep moving with the current. If one have to attain a dream future aspiration, it is a proven fact that the barrier of comfort zone must be broken to spread the wings to fly high.

CSK team built a structure with Thala and winning IPL editions became their trend. The winning model was to retain team members as much as possible to bond and chime with the culture of the team. The number of IPL wins saw the retained team members age as well. The big tsunami type of impact was first seen with this model during 2020 IPL edition where the failure was echoed by the cricket world as team full of senior and aged players. The IPL 2021 edition soon arrived and the victorious CSK proved once again the model was working and silenced the critics of the cricket world. Probably the team management went with the model inspiration for the Mega auction and secured stars from the past. As any fan would think, to retain or buy back old players is equivalent to being in the comfort zone.

The IPL 2022 edition so far for CSK is smoking mirror from the execution point. The RCB capitalised the mega auction to secure Faf. Faf’s street smart batting and captaincy skill has made RCB as top gunner for the championship race.

The IPL 2010 witnessed CSK lose first four matches and then went on to play a magical performance to win the edition. Does CSK still have the magic up their sleeve?
