Yash Dhull was selected from the gully cricket and elevated to play big Cricket. Today, he is a captain of Under-19 Team India.
I know you will have these questions. Does the selectors watch gully cricket? How is that possible as there are numerous gullies in India? For Yash, it was done by the chief selector her mother.
Big game and Big stage - Semi finals against Australia. India lost two early wickets and Aussies were under complete control. Captain Yash and Vice Captain Rash (Rasheed) joined together in the middle. The ball by ball commentary were filled with dot balls, 1s and 2s. There were rare boundaries. The run rate was at 3 and nudging to 4 per over during the middle of the innings.
I had mixed thoughts in my mind. Is the pitch difficult to play? Watching more T20s these days, the expectation was they are going to hit few boundaries imminently and the wait continued well into 40 overs.
It didn’t register in my mind till the end of the Indian innings which was witnessed by Yash’s century and Rash’s ninety that their mission was to rebuild the innings after early debacle. The maturity and responsibility at their age is commendable and they have scripted to elevate further.
Mother’s instincts never go wrong and Yash’s story is no different.
